When your new compatible cordless power tool battery arrives you should charge it fully and before your first use if there is a time lag, you may notice that the first few charges and use in your power tool that a full capacity charge might not be reached, it normally takes up to ten of them to get to the stage, this is a normal part of the conditioning of a new rechargeable battery.
The best way to look after the battery after this is to use it often, if this is not going to be the case then at least charge it before putting it away and every 6 to 8-weeks to keep the cells fresh, do not leave it for months on end with maintaining a periodic charge else it will degrade.
