You have the APC ES 400 unit in place to protect some valuable equipment and to avoid the corruption of data from power surges or even a lightning strike. So it makes good sense to replace the battery pack that has been working twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week protecting your vital data. Plus at this low cost, you would be well advised to do so as soon as possible.
The fitting of the new battery pack could not be easier. Once you have ordered your battery and received it, open the packing and you will find a single battery. You may find it has plastic covers on the terminals, these are just there to protect the terminals and can be safely removed.
Find a time when you can shut down all the equipment that your BE400-UK is protecting. Then shut down the UPS as well, completely removing the power lead from the mains power.
Make yourself some room on a desk and put a soft cloth down to protect the casing. Turn the ES 400 on its back and you will see a door that can be slid open. Once done turn the UPS back over and catch the battery as it falls out.
You will see two cables attached to the battery, swap them over to the new one, normally best to do the red one first. Then put the battery back in the case and shut the door.
It will not take more than five minutes with no tools required. We would suggest that you power up the UPS without any load, to begin with, this will give the new battery a chance to have a good charge and help reset the UPS with its new capacity.
If you are not using your UPS for any period you should plug it into mains power every couple of months to give the battery a chance to charge. If you do not eventually the battery will not be able to accept a charge and will need replacing, which would be a shame.
