Looking after this type of battery is quite easy as long as you follow basic rules and of course it depends on what its being fitted into, for example if its going into a alarm system that is connected to the mains then this will look after the battery for you with its built in charging circuit, in fact it does such a great job of this that the lifespan would not be unusual to top 10 years, despite this you should still do annual checks after the first two years to ensure its still able to hold a charge, you do not want the alarm system phoning you up at 3 o'clock in the morning because the powers gone out for a minute or so which quite often is the only time you will find out about it.

If you are using it in a more portable type of application which requires you to plug it in to be charged then ensure you charge it before use, charge again after each use, do not allow it to sit for any longer than absolutely required without a full charge, try not to use more than 50% of the capacity, if not being used for long periods recharge every four weeks but do not leave on the charger any longer than needed to obtain a full charge.

These AGM or absorbed glass mat batteries can safely be mounted in hard to reach awkward places perhaps on the side without the fear of leakage, they are sealed lead, they require maintenance, no topping up with fluids, valve regulated or VRLA and not-hazardous and safe.
