Maintaining your battery does not just mean checking the fluid level periodically, it also means keeping a positive charge in the cells, if you use your motorbike all year round for reasonable length trips then this will keep the battery charged and you will get the best from it, if however you are a seasonal user and she spends a lot of time sitting still then the battery will gradually become discharged, this is even more noticeable if you have outside draw of current such as an alarm or immobiliser. If not being used for long periods then take the battery off the bike, store off a cold garage floor, recharge every four to six weeks and it will last considerable longer.

Once activated the battery will have sufficient energy to start a normal working engine, but remember to take it for a good ride afterwards, the first charge is always important, if you are unable to do this then a spell on a charger should be administered.

More conventional wet or flooded cells do need some maintaining during the life span by topping up the fluids should they begin to drop, but that also means you can get a long life from them with the added benefit of high output for engine starting.
