The first charge is necessary, so if you are now going to use it to start your motorcycle, then ensure you take it for a good run afterwards to recover the energy lost while starting. If this is impractical, put it on a charger to recoup the capacity.
If you use your battery all year round, at least a few times a week, then it will last. The problem is a lot of bikes do not get used in the winter seasons, resulting in a discharged battery that will never be the same in the following spring. If this sounds familiar, the best thing to do is take the battery off the motorbike at the end of the season. Charge it and put it away in a frost-free dry area, off the floor and recharge every eight weeks but not for more than twenty-four hours. You do not know what may be draining it if left on the bike. This is OK if you are going to make regular checks on the voltage with a meter to be sure, but most people do not. Then, moan come summer that the battery is no good when it is their lack of attention to the battery requirements.
