Looking after your new motorcycle battery is important if you do not want to have to replace it every season, although it does not need any maintenance it does need to be kept charged.

Once you have activated the battery and installed it on your bike it will have sufficient charge to start the vehicle but it is important to charge it straight away afterwards, this can be done by giving it a good run, if you are unable to do this then put it on a charger.

If you use your bike a couple of time a week for a good run all year round then you will get the best from your battery, if however your use is less frequent that this then you should keep a good eye on it, regularly running it down because of poor starting due to engine issues will quickly shorten the battery life.

If you only use the battery during the summer season and not the other months of the year we would suggest removing the battery, charging it and keeping it off a cold concrete garage floor, then charging it every eight weeks, do not leave it on a charger 24/7 either, charge and remove.

A lot of people may have alarms or other equipment that use power and substitute the energy with a on board trickle charger, this is not always the best thing to do and we hear stories every new season, if you can take the battery off as stated above, everything else is a compromise.
