The battery is AGM and charged in the factory, fresh as the day it was made upon activation which is made before delivery, so ready to fit.

Once activated your New Harley Davidson 6598997A or ETX20LBS battery will have sufficient charge to start your motorcycle if indeed the engine is in good order, but of course, if you get the chance you should always charge a rechargeable battery when it arrives and first use. but if you do not you should go for a trip on it straight away as the first charge is always very important. if that cannot be done then put it on a charger straight afterwards.

The long time care of your battery is paramount unless you wish to change it every year, which can get expensive, but we do not mind that it's good for business. quite often they are used seasonally and ignored during the colder months, if you are not using your bike a few times a week all year round then we would suggest taking the battery off of the bike. charging it until fully charged, remove from charger and store. then recharge again every eight weeks repeating the process. do not store on a cold garage floor.

While there are many trickle chargers that people use while they are not using their bike the use of them will not be as good as above, but certainly better than not charging them at all. if you are not using the battery regularly everything else is a compromise. the best method is the former one mentioned, with much less chance of ruining your battery.

If you are leaving the battery on the bike during the off-season you would be wise to check the voltage every week, to begin with. many things can slowly drain a battery, joint, damaged cable and so much more, then, of course, the more obvious ones like an alarm system or immobiliser, as we have stated the best thing if it's not being used is to remove it from anything that will drain it down during the off-season.
