The Bosch UniversalImpact-18 06039C8171 is a cordless combi with added impact capabilities. It has 20 separate torque settings to enable you to use the screwdriver in different materials. Plus of course to lock into drilling mode, as stated it also has a impact mode for masonry, concrete or bricks. It features a 10mm shank and single-sleeve drill chuck of quick and easy change of bits or drills. Two speed gearbox will help you choose the right speed for the job in hand. It can run at 1350Rpm, although this would be without load in the second gear dropping to 400rpm in the first. The screwdriver setting can handle up to 30Nm of torque on the maximum setting. Its quoted as having a drilling diameter of 3mm in wood and 10mm into masonry.

The tool generally comes with a 1.5ah battery, ours is a 3ah version which means it will last twice as long between charges. This means you can actually finish the job you started rather than wait around while charging it taking up precious time that should be being spent down the pub on a Sunday afternoon.

Now if you can share the battery among all of your tools it will get the best possible care. this is because a battery likes nothing better than to be used and charged. so if during the colder months you are working inside, perhaps putting up the obligatory shelf or putting together that piece of furniture that came flat packed. Then come the summer out in the garden trimming back the monster of a hedge that grew overnight in the spring and chopping back you borders. Then the battery gets use all year round, assuming that you charge it as well.

This is because inside the pack there are lots of smaller cells, over time these will start to slowly and naturally self discharge. If left in this way they will eventually become out of balance to each other as the voltages of them get further apart. if allowed to get to far down the road them the charger will not longer recognise them and the early demise of a otherwise perfectly good battery will arise. Charging and using brings them back into balance. So if you want to keep the money in your own pocket and not ours, use it and charge the battery.

Charge the battery fully when it arrives and first use. If for any reason its not being charged then recharge every six to eight weeks to keep the cells functioning for later use.

You will note this is a 3ah version of the battery, much more energy storage than the ones often supplied from new with power tools, this enables much more use on a single charge, twice as much as the 1.5ah, that's a lot more work than can be achieved.
