The Smart-UPS SRT1000XLI 1000VA from APC is a tower-rack uninterruptable power supply (UPS) system which can be found in large and small offices, data centres, home use and anywhere that requires protection from power spikes and other electrical problems. The power supply uses these storage batteries to clean up the mains electricity that is inputted by passing it through the cells before it reaches the equipment behind it, flattening out the spikes.

How to extend the life of your batteries?
The batteries on offer are maintenance-free, sealed lead-acid with suspended electrolyte, leak proof, non hazardous, recyclable and can be fitted on their side, ideal for installing into these types of systems. Batteries installed into these systems should last between two to five years but there are simple ways to help extend the life of them. Obviously the UPS has its own charging cycle which is a good start however you should run the system without load directly after installation as this will help them reset. Other tips on extending battery life are making sure the system is clear of dust, having good ventilation around the system, stored in a climate controlled room and using less than 40% load where possible.
Installation
Installation is fairly simple and can be done by most people however if in doubt please seek advice from a professional. We have listed a rough guide here to help you get started, the battery module is hot swap capable so no need to power it down. Firstly, take the cover off the back of the machine and unplug the battery module. Undo the screws and slide out the module, replace the batteries inside and slide the module back in making sure the screws go back and the cover is replaced.
