The SMC1000i-2UC Rackmount unit is one of the smaller machines in this range so the time will be limited but enough until the devices it is powering can be shut down correctly. It has a rated power of 600W and 1000VA and a new feature because it is part of the SMC range which is "SmartConnect". The letter "C" stands in the model number is for "SmartConnect," a clever communications feature that allows for easy communication with the UPS as it gives you a secure web portal access to your UPS's status. This cutting-edge remote monitoring interface will send you automatic notifications, firmware updates, and advanced support.

There are two batteries in this set as required for this rackmount system.
SMC1000i-2UC battery installation
Remove the cover and from here and you'll see a couple of Phillips screws holding the battery door, which will allow you to silence your UPS' annoying beeping sound. Remove the battery pack by unscrewing these, then the connector. As you can see, swapping the two batteries is a relatively simple process once you get to this point. There will be two batteries and four wires. Simply unplug the old batteries and reconnect the wires to the new ones in the same fashion. Install them back in the machine once everything is connected and secure, making sure all of the screws and toggles are in the proper positions.
Ongoing battery maintenance
According to the battery manufacturer and APC themselves, depending on usage, these should last between two and five years. Here are some pointers on how to keep them going until the end. Run the system without any load after installation to guarantee that the batteries are comfortable in their new surroundings. We highly recommend that you should also keep the UPS system in a well-ventilated area to avoid overheating and clean, and run it at less than 40% capacity if possible.
