The APC BR900GI and BR1000G are Power-Saving Back-UPS machines that are best suited for protecting your equipment at home or in a small office. A very popular model that can be found in a variety of locations since it is small in size and easy to maintain. At the heart of this machine, and what gives it the power to do its job, is a pair of 12v batteries, and once they have served their purpose, the machine will require a new one. According to APC, the expected longevity of these lead-acid batteries is 3-5 years. This number heavily depends on how the UPS is used and kept. A dust-free climate-controlled room would be ideal, but not everyone has one, especially with a small battery pack like this. Instead, make an effort to keep the vents clean as dust often accumulates around them (possibly use a vacuum now and then). Also, where possible, we recommend using less than 40% load and running without any load after installation.

UPS machines come in a huge variety and they all have at least one battery inside(in this case, two) which will eventually need to be changed. Luckily, it is pretty easy and quick to do the job and no special tools or training is required, perhaps just a screwdriver. They are recyclable because the primary element of these AGM batteries is lead or Pb, which can be easily converted into yet another product. They are typically designed to fit into systems that include energy-saving features that reduce environmental impact as well. When these have served their purpose, please recycle them along with the batteries you are replacing at your local recycling centre.
