A four-stroke 16HP petrol engine powers the Clarke PG9500ADVES generator to provide energy to a pair of 230V outlets, 13A and 32A, and Two 110V outlets, 16A and 32A. A twenty-litre fuel tank helps power 6.5 hours at a three-quarter load, with a maximum output of 8.5KW and a continuous rating of 8KW. There are other features, such as a low oil level shutdown, which started either by Recoil or an electric start.

The original battery supplied with the equipment is 12v 18ah, quite a standard one with only one noticeable feature: the positive terminal is on the left rather than the common right. Our replacement is a more powerful 22-ah battery designed for starting engines and, therefore, considerably better for the job; it will slip straight in and might save your shoulder one cold morning.

The battery will come out to you pretty well charged, but it would be remiss of us to remind you that any rechargeable battery should be charged upon receipt and first use; if it is not being used, then recharge every six weeks to keep the cells in good order. Please remember that replacing the energy in the cells after starting the equipment will take at least twenty minutes of runtime.

It will take up to ten charges and use in your equipment before a lead battery will be conditioned to accept a full capacity charge, this is normal.
