The CyberPower BPE144VL2 is an EBM (Extended Battery Module), which is a device that extends the runtime of your UPS during power outages. It does this by providing additional capacity through an extra set of batteries. Some UPS systems can take numerous EBMs. This is ideal for operations that cannot have a downtime, or for when backup will take a lot of time.
Please note that this module will not work on its own, and will not have the same functions as a UPS system. It is no more than a battery pack designed to extend the runtime of your UPS.

We will be supplying twelve new batteries to replace the old batteries in your BPE144VL2U01 module. You should replace all of the batteries currently in your EBM with the new batteries supplied at the same time. When you have a bank of batteries, the entire bank will sit at the same level as the worst battery within the bank. Therefore, not replacing all of the batteries will degrade the new batteries to the level of the old batteries.
The chemistry of these batteries will be SLA (Sealed Lead Acid), the same type fitted into your UPS. This means only minimal maintenance is required. This also means that replacing the batteries will be safe, as long as you follow the safety precautions highlighted in the BPE144VL2U01 manual.
Like your UPS, your EBM should have sufficient ventilation to prevent overheating of the batteries. Doing so will ensure the batteries have a full lifespan as provided by the manufacturers, around 2-5 years.
