Replacing the batteries yourself or via a friend will be a much cheaper and quicker way to bring the patient lift back online. To start with, put the battery box on a workbench or table and find a screwdriver. Sometimes these have a security head instead of a Phillips screw but most people these days will have something in their toolbox for this. If not, they are cheap pieces of equipment found in most supermarkets. Once you have undone these six screws, take off the cover and replace the batteries inside, swapping one cable at a time.

It’s best to fully charge the newly fitted batteries in the pack before first use. To maximize their lifespan, charge them after every use. If only a tiny amount of energy is used, the batteries can withstand thousands of charge cycles. However, deeper discharges significantly reduce their longevity, so avoid letting them run too low. Never leave them in a discharged state; if they won’t be used for an extended period, recharge them monthly.
