These are very handy little protection units, the battery that is in it works very hard to protect your system for power surges that might otherwise damage your important data, the battery is not just there to allow you a battery back period but its working all the time the UPS is switched on.

before you start the procedure below unpack the new battery, you may find that it might have plastic covers protecting the terminals, remove these and find yourself a clear desk with a soft cloth laid down, or maybe a piece of card to protect the case of your UPS from being scratched while you work on it.
How to change the battery in your APC ES 400
Step 1; The first thing you should do is power down any equipment that your APC ES 400, BE400-UK back-UPS is protecting, then power down the UPS and remove all the cables and take the power socket out from the mains
Once this is done move the UPS over onto a clear space on your desk and turn it over so the back is exposed, from her you will be able to release the tabs in the door and slide the battery door open.
Step 2; You can then pull the battery out of the case, its sometimes easier to tip the case back up the right way and allow the battery to drop into your hand, be careful though the battery is a couple of kilos, you do not want to drop it onto your desk top, or for that matter anywhere else
Step 3; Then its just a matter of swapping the leads over and putting in the new battery and sliding the door until it clips shut
We would recommend that you power up your UPS system before adding any equipment to give your new battery a chance to fully charge without any load. This will also help to reset it so it knows it has a new battery and charge accordingly
