When placing your order, you will note that the batteries will be almost fully charged when received. But you should still complete a charge before first use. If it's going into a device that is constantly connected to the mains like a UPS system, you can miss this step out as it will automatically do it for you. There should be no need for many hours. It will probably not take very long at all, just until your charger indicates they are ready. This will, of course, depend on the charger's capabilities. Do not miss out on this crucial first step. It will help set them up and possibly extend their overall life expectancy.
It's not always apparent, but it will take up to ten charges combined with use in your chosen device before a full capacity charge can be achieved. This is just a normal part of the conditioning process. After use, recharge as soon as you can. You do not want to allow them to sit in a partially discharged state. Never go out of your way to deliberately discharge them entirely. This will not reset them, only reduce the overall life span. There may be many reasons for the equipment not being used regularly, then ensure the batteries are charged beforehand and then recharged every 4-weeks but do not leave them on a charger for more than twenty-four hours at a time.
These batteries are deep cycle capable, which is essential in this type of application, the VRLA and AGM cells will not leak and not hazardous so suitable for travelling. There is no maintenance required, except charging, which we have covered on this page, both VRLA and AGM.
