We are pleased to introduce a pair of GEL-18ah (17.7ah) batteries designed for use in powerchairs, mobility scooters, wheelchairs, and many other electric vehicle applications however could be used for a huge number of electrical devices. This offer is for a pair of said batteries as it is often cheaper for our customers to buy them as a set rather than two individual ones. If being installed into a mobility device then 90% of the time you would require two twelve-volt batteries which connect to create a twenty-four-volt system on your machine.
GEL-18ah 12v battery Maintenance tips
Although these batteries are classed as maintenance-free, that depends on what they are being installed into. If it’s something where the owner needs to charge the batteries such as an electric vehicle, mobility scooter, powerchair, or wheelchair then you must follow these tips to ensure a long life. First of all, charge until fully before first use and until full as soon as possible after every single time you use it. Never, ever leave in a discharged state. Although GEL batteries can be deep cycled more than AGM, it is something you should avoid if possible. Lastly, if they are not going to be used for long periods then of course fully charge after your last use and then every eight weeks or so to keep the cells fresh and ready for next use.
Benefits of GEL over AGM
A special glass mat made of thin glass fibres is used in AGM batteries. This is intended to absorb the electrolytes that circulate between the battery plates. Gel batteries, on the other hand, use a type of silica gel to keep electrolytes together. The material's thick consistency allows electrons to flow freely from the plates. GEL batteries make use of this better than an AGM can and therefore increase the Depth of Discharge (DoD). Both types of batteries need to be charged correctly but especially GEL. If a scar inside its jelly material appears from not charging correctly this could create packets that will corrode the plates.
Environmentally Friendly
All AGM and GEL batteries are classed as valve-regulated lead-acid, which suggests it has lead content inside. Lead is a precious metal and recyclable therefore can be made into something useful once it has completed its job.
